Maidstone’s Collis Millennium Green is now safer and more welcoming thanks to new improvements funded by the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

A solar-powered CCTV camera, new notice board, and information boards have been installed to boost security and help visitors.

The project was funded through Maidstone Borough Council’s CIL neighbourhood fund with support from councillors Clive English, Dinesh Khadka, and Donna Greenan.

Cllr Dinesh Khadka said the upgrades show how local funding can make a real difference. Cllr Clive English added it’s a great example of councillors and community funds working together.

CIL is a charge paid by developers to help fund local infrastructure. In Maidstone, part of it goes towards neighbourhood projects like Collis Millennium Green.

Maidstone Borough Council, working with waste contractor SUEZ, has launched a new art competition inviting residents of all ages to design artwork for one of the borough’s recycling trucks.

Starting 1 October, the contest encourages creative designs that promote recycling, reducing, and reusing. The winning entry will be featured on a real recycling vehicle, turning it into a moving advert for environmental awareness.

Cllr Clive English said it’s a fun way for people to get creative while helping spread an important message about protecting the environment.

Winners will receive £200 in environmental or wellness vouchers and be invited to a photo shoot with their truck once the design is revealed.
